    Just finished this little drawing.

Still struggling with textures. Do you guys apply textures in Photoshop or straight in Illustrator? I found that live traced textures in Illustrator don't look that organic, certainly not when printed.

I've never tried textures in Illustrator although that is my weapon of choice over Photoshop for illustration. I have been doing my illustrating in Illustrator and then adding the texture in Photoshop. Nice Fox illo though. Great depth of color:)

I sometimes use Illustrator and Photoshop to add texture, but more in PS. The textures I apply in Illustrator print out fine for what I do.

    Thanks for the feedback guys

@Ryan Marshall That's how I did it for this illustration as well. I drew the guy in Illustrator and applied textures in Photoshop. It seems to work fine, but somehow it feels like I'm doing something wrong using two programs instead of one...?

@Christopher P. Cacho I had some mixed feelings when I printed a birth card with 'grungy edges' made in Illustrator. These were live traced edges and the transition between them and the background colour turned out very harsh. Do you live trace your textures in Illustrator? Or do you just import them and use them as bitmap textures?

@Nicholas Hendrickx — I live trace the textures. The results seem to look better using a high quality source. The benefit I see in live trace textures is being able to scale them. All in all, I think adding textures in Ps will look better.

Black and white live trace, right? I did that in the past — http://dribbble.com/shots/195345-Shading-Test — and I think I'm going to do it again in the future. It has a different style I think. Thanks for your input!

This conversation about textures and which program to use definitely helped me out, thanks everyone who added input. I always felt like there was something wrong with my workflow trying to do textures in PS, but now I know I am not alone
