Today's build went out with an entirely new skin. Most won't notice what exactly is different about it (present company excluded of course), it will just feel a lot smoother and refined.
I started out just wanting to better match the colors of the site. With the first release, I used the same hex codes for most things. That was a mistake. This time around I spent a lot of time staring at my phone and visually matching it to the site. From there, I saw a lot of ways to tighten it up. Smaller corner radii, depressed highlight states, more constistent type treatment, and less contrast overall.
Shown here at 1X, but it really needs to be seen on your Retina phone.
Lots of new features, too. That bolt in the tab bar lights up when there are new notifications, and you can now track tags in the app. We also added a sign up process, which is huge for us. It's really slick.
And the app is a bunch faster, which I can't really show here!
Really smooth, big fan of the new blue as well. I never got that the post button swiped up to be a camera until I read your details on the last shot though. For some reason it's function just isn't clear enough for me understand just from looking at it.
Thanks @Tim Parker. That's a tough one for me. It's not essential that anyone know about it but I do want to be the app that you reach for when you want to take a photo.
Fantastic iterations, Peter. Seems every minor complaint I had about the last UI design has been fixed. The last thing I can think of off the top of my head is having a way to get a post's link in order to share it (usually via email or text). Or, if there is a way and I haven't found it, I'd love to be educated!
@Pat Dryburgh Hold down the Like button for share options, and hold down the Reblog icon for fast reblogging. Just added those both with this release. Eventually we're going to have to put these tips somewhere in the app :)
Loving the update. The noise in the tab bar is still a little weird to me - noise usually makes an item feel softer, but the tab bar has a hard glass applied, so it throws my brain for a curveball.
I'm not saying it doesn't look nice, I'm just saying it doesn't seem like a logical surface.
@Peter - Awesome! Holding down the reblogging button for fast reblogging is smart, as it's a proper shortcut. Holding down the like button isn't great, however, as the two actions aren't exactly connected.
But, I feel your pain. Trying to keep that lower row of actions icons as minimal as possible is tough, I'm discovering designing my own iPhone app with a feed.

That
@1xnoise looks weird. Though, on an actual device, the UI is marvelous. Great update.9 months ago

@Dominik Porada I'm glad you pointed that out. We removed all noise from the 1X assets. I just included it here.

Updating now.
Congrats on going from one of the apps that crashed on me the most, to one of my favorites. Keep it up.

Like it at all, only can you make the pressed state little bit sharper? :)

@Peter Vidani - feel free to rebound the shot without the noise on @1x - would indeed love to see it.
