I wanted to do a music player for learning purposes. The initial thought was to redesign Spotify. At least, that was the plan. The end result is somewhere in between Rdio and Spotify in both functionality and design.
I've made two versions, one with a dark player, and one with a light player. The layout on the top bar is different on both. I'm curious which one you guys/gals like better and why. Never to old to learn! Right? ;)
Its pretty cool, I prefer the darker version mainly because you drawn down to the controls way more than the lighter version. It also seems to like the white version doesn't quite end the app where as the darker version does.
Header wise though, I prefer the ligher version. More in tune with current osx placement of alerts/ notifications etc.
Looks lovely. Shows how Rdio didn't need to go overboard with white to have a more unique identity (distance themselves from a OS X look if that was the case – which it must've been).
Hey Kevin, I think you did a great job with the minimalist style here, and I'm a big fan of the icons, particularly the "people" icon. I think you could spend some more time on the "play queue" icon. Nice work!
@Philip Clark Thanks dude! And yes, I know what you mean. Could have spent a little bit more time on rethinking that one. Just took it over from Spotify. I.e. a no-brainer. :P
I love how simple and easy on the eyes this is. Some apps really kill my eyes and give me a headache if I look at them right after I wake up. But this one posed no such problem.
I prefer the dark version due to contrasting the bottom bar.
@Kevin Anderson Also, where did you get that background, and where can I find similar ones? Always struggle to find simple, beautiful, grungy backgrounds for when I design mac apps.

Definitely a fan of the darker player, i think mainly because of the contrast with the rest of the design.

@Vaibhav He most likely just blurred a picture till it was like a gradient then applied textures and messed with contrast and exposure settings.

i like it! although, i wish there was a little more line height within the content. A little crowded for me :)

Am I the only one that caught sight of the 'Pussy Lounge' playlist? It's not like I could even google that to see if it's a music related thing. Haha
Anyway, beautiful work @Kevin, I love the simplicity. If I had to choose between the two I would definitely go for the light player.

go with the dark.
top bar looks kinda clunky and "child proof"
