The kids book I illustrated is now out! Here's a close up of one of my favourite pages featuring the Viking King for a crazy festival which takes place every January since 1870 in the Shetland Islands, Scotland. (I had to fight for all that fire in the background.)
Some process shots are up for a couple of pages my blog and you can buy it from the usual suspects including Amazon. I'm so happy this is finally out.
Thanks @Carl Wiens ! I didn't realize until this afternoon that it's properly in stores. Pretty exciting. I'll post some more images in the next week or so.
@Nate Maggio thanks! I think that beard is my favourite part of the whole book. I had to fight for those 'crazy' colours too. So happy it won out.
@Luke Ritchie - Thanks! I had to fight for those colours. The higher ups weren't super keen on the colourful beard and face. So happy I got this one through.
@Jacqui Oakley you gotta fight fo' ya' right! :) essentially it just comes down to lighting, just love how you choose unique light colours to represent the highlight areas, and other colours to represent the shadow are. so Fresssss
@Luke Ritchie - yes I had to make a few compromises but this guy's beard just had to stay. Really happy you like the way I coloured it. This part was so much fun to work on.
Another page from the kids book I illustrated, Lighting Our World. Here's the Japanese festival of Obon where family and friends of the departed float lit-up lanterns down a river to symbolize the spirits’ journeys back to the world of the dead. As the vessel sinks and the light is extinguished and the soul is said to return to the spirit-world. Wish we had lovely traditions like this in Canada.
Some process shots are up for a couple of new pages are up on my blog. Hope some kids like this!
I'm really late to this, but congratulations! The cover is beautiful, love that lettering for the title (nice 'g-W'!) Absolutely fantastic process documentation as always too, I especially like the shot with the pencil outline on the full page layout.
@Claire Coullon thank-you so much! I'm really pleased you like the process shots and the book images themselves. I have a book launch soon in Toronto and I'm excited but also a little bit scared to see a ton of kids reactions. Wish me luck!
Wow, that's fantastic (and yes I can imagine definitely a little nerve wracking – although at least you can be sure they're being honest with their feedback!) All the best with it, I don't doubt it'll be a success.

Yes, the kids will be honest with their feedback @Claire Coullon which is why I will ply them with candy.
