Words App Remake UI

Quite satisfied now with the sidebar UI. What do you think about the colour indicators? Green = unread article, yellow = article with marked text, blue = article with custom tags, black = archived article.

I wanted to find a non-intrusive way of indicating these different article states. It took me a while, but I am quite satisfied now. They make the app feel a bit more lively, but don't piss you off after a while. As far as I see it. What do you guys think?

For the big picture, check out the full screen attachment.

The article view on the right isn't anywhere near final so far. So don't be to hard on me with it.

Love it, great job! drop an outer and inner shadow on those green, yellow and blue tabs

@Danny Arar Thanks. I will give it a try. But I don't want to over-extend it. I will see.

If you look at the black tag closely you will see it forms a small gradient between itself, the 1px border and the background of the article box. That's because the border of the tag is a colour in between the black of the tag and the lighter grey of the background. A small thing like this detracts from the overall awesomeness of this UI. The rest is all great.

I actually think this UI as a whole would look a good bit better with fewer (or less intense) drop shadows and borders.

@Flavius Mihaiu Yes, you are right. I will fix that. Thanks for noticing and your feedback. Keep it up.

Hmmm, maybe something else instead of tabs? Circles? Something more subtle?

I think if it's read or archived, you can just fade the article a bit, for example.

I'm not sure how easy it is to understand the yellow and blue as marked and custom tagged. I would prefer symbols on those fronts, like a highlighter and a tag icon, for example. And these should be subtle too.

    Just some ideas :-)

@Julie Ng Thanks for the feedback. I probably will go for something more subtle. I had the same feeling today. But no icons. But I will go for something different on archived...

Blue circles are usually used for unread items, no? Love the project.

I'd keep sidebar icons in gray palette to reduce visual noise. Looks very nice otherwise.

  13. I wasn't satisfied with the plain sidebar (used in quite a few apps nowadays), so I added a more app-like feeling to it (Inspired by the latest work of @Mikael Eidenberg. Awesome stuff.). Is this for the better or worse?

Archived articles are now darker & have no label anymore. The labels got smaller & not so distracting.

Be sure to check out the 2 big screenshots. One is with the collapsed article list. This is the normal view you would have if reading an article.

The icons need a bit more love, but that has to wait until tomorrow :).

What do you think? Am I taking it in the right direction?
