   The intent was to create a backdrop which was simple and dramatic, but also work with the multitude of colorful product logos we have. The dark matte background also was easy to templatize, since we don't have a lot of visual designers to make custom icons for each product. I'll post the a G+ and Search on here soon. They share the same matte texture but are red and blue respectively.

   Why the shadow on the envelope? I don't feel like this icon is really that cohesive with the g+ examples.

   @Nick, unfortunately, I couldn't make very many modifications to the Gmail logo itself. For now, the shadow remains.
