Alot to love here. Hard to pick out what you were trying to do with the orange though. I'd just flush out that whole top pattern throughout. I'd probably tweak the stems of the A so that the ends line up with the star shape.
My defense of the design: the horizontal pattern is obviously derivative from the 70s sunburst uniforms. However, the design felt a little 2D and the abstract effect wasn't as great IMO, so I added the little overlapping triangles at each of the 5 "inner" junctions. They always have the darker orange on the left and the lighter on the right in a radial pattern from the middle of the star. They do just enough to add some visual interest to the design while without detracting much from the greater horizontal pattern as a whole. The little inner-triangles also remind me of @Ricky Linn 's amazing style as well... Giving the design a little southwest feel (Granted, Houston is in east Texas, but still...)
Also, the little "continuations" of the top 3 segments also cut off in a radial pattern from the middle of the star, which is why they are not aligned with the opposing edges.

Playing off Brandon's idea and mixing it with some vintage Astros uniforms and a little southern style. I also threw up a hat concept as well.
Thoughts?
