Review some current projects and I need some opinions on a "docked" icon. Context: An app that can talk to numerous pieces of hardware, each piece represented by a table row. On each row is an icon that, if present, represents "an iphone/ipod is docked in this item". The easiest thing would be to show an ipod icon docked but of course I can't do that.

If it's specifically iPhones/iPods sat in a dock and not just via cable then it looks perfect. However if it's an iPhone/iPod plugged in via any medium then I'm not sure it's clear enough.

@Max yep everything is docked in a physical slot, much like the Bose SoundDock speaker system.

    Hello, beautiful :)

I would press the buttons into the background... sort of keep them at the same level with the back, and add a groove around the perimeter.

(edit) Oh, just noticed the actual question, duh. The icon looks like FM iPod transmitter. I can't pick up the "being docked" easily. I would look at something with a downward arrow... like the bottom part of the iP?d, the top of the connector and the arrow between them.

@Alex, ya tried that unfortunately too many people thought that meant "dock?" or a request to dock something instead of "docked". I tried to show just an outline of an iphone/ipod in the dock but without the ability to actually show the device's buttons it doesn't come across as an ipod/iphone.

It's definitely a tough one, thanks for the ideas.

There's actually something very familiar and attractive but functional about that icon. I'm all for it. Seeing them all in context might be helpful on first view though.
