As part of my project Redsgned I went about redesigning a few sites of my own to showcase, as well as those by Visual Idiot and other great work out there.
Due to family commitments and other shizzle, Redsgned is still in the process of getting done (ie. when I can be assed) so for now, I present to you my vision of what Pixar's site could be like if they were to change from the current white design.
UPDATE: I've just seen Pixar's new site, which is a big improvement on the old one, but still room for improvement in my eyes.
I'm not sure I really like this, it feels a little like a WordPress template with the panels for the the 3 things below the main feature graphic.
When I think of Pixar the first thing I'd ask them (I know this is a design exercise of course :-) ) if for BIG visual assets to design with, they create some of the most amazing digital stuff ever seen, I don't think this design necessarily makes enough of that.
Again, I know it's an exercise but perhaps there's some scope for fullscreen images of films (think http://movies.io) or even better, try out a concept based more around video perhaps?
@James Young I did entertain the thought of having a more image or content based site, as mentioned by someone else on Forrst, but I went with a revamp of what their site is like now (and the old one) which is a simple focus on the most recent film, and a few links here and there. I've tried to prettify it, but keep the same simple set up that they have.
Tell me, what's so special about this comp, when two most important parts are originally by someone else? Pixar's hero image and Louie Mantia's background from http://dribbble.com/shots/137711-Andy-s-Room?
@Václav Vančura Despite your rudeness, I did already explain this on the initial shot for the background http://dribbble.com/shots/485545-Andy-s-Room-Wallpaper/attachments/32483 - it's from scratch, it's just based on the same original image. Just because someone did it first, doesn't mean someone else can't do a different version. Let me guess, because Louie did it - no one else can?
As for the hero image - really? So, all those themes on ThemeForest that use celebrities and others' work etc, for their hero images. Their themes are crap because the 'most important part is designed by someone else'?
Really nice design too. Just my own personal reasoning on why they dont have their site like this. Pixar despite making 'kid' films is actually a family company, im sure parents love the films just as much as the child. Where as, to me, this website feels more geared towards the children. Which is great, and it nails that. But it doesn't then match Pixar's global audience.

Don't know if that's helpful or not :)

This looks great. You beat me to it however as I'm uploading my redesign of this Pixar site this weekend with any luck.
Love the "Andy's room" wallpaper background.

I actually liked this design concept than their new site. Personally, it's more colorful and pixar-like :D
