It's not a black stripe, like you said: the screen [is] running off the phone. It's representing what's called offset lithography or printing where registration isn't always on par which is often visually used in illustrations to give a feeling of playfulness.
Ahh I see Josh, Maybe it carries better when you can see the full design? Because with just that little int of offset lithography it just looks like a mistake.
