Shame we have to think about "post-Sparrow" anything, but this looks great. Not sure about some of the colors on the emails (the green and pink in particular seem out-of-place), though.
Also, I laughed out loud at your Mozart email. "Zat tzechmologie schtuff," ha!
The right part reminds me of my mail web app design.
The left icons are way too big IMO.
What are the color bars on the left of emails for?
The light blue background color behind the mail is weird.
I think the email should take more space on this right part.
@Guillaume Gaubert I didn't see yours before I made this, we must have similar ideas! As for the bars on the sides of the email, those are labels which represent different lists (work, school, friends, etc). This is a work in progress, and I'm still looking for a developer.
This is kind of a refreshing design. Love the treatment of labels and starred conversations.
A couple things -- the type size on the header "Inbox (2)" is rubbing me the wrong way. I think you got it right with "New Message", and you could stay consistent with that.
As for the size, I think it's cool how big and clickable you made a lot of the buttons, but I think what bothers me a little is that the icons inside them seem disproportionately large; maybe try reducing the icon size for more whitespace.
Also, those big icons in the left nav are flat, but the smaller icons inside the header and mailbox listings are treated with drop and inner shadows and gradients. If it were one or the other, I'd think larger elements would get styled before smaller ones. I say throw those styles on there and they'll look even more enticing.
Great work -- very readable and easy to understand.
@Ari: Sure, don't mention it! Here's an example of a similar button with lots of whitespace: http://dribbble.com/shots/665740-Diabetic-button. It's well-aligned and big, but I think it's the whitespace that makes it look so good. Don't ask me why, but it works!
