Just how defined is too defined when it comes to feathers? I seem to be a terrible judge of this...

ANYWAY, this Zelda piece is still coming along. I realize it's not a 25th anniversary piece anymore, but people celebrate 26th anniversaries, right? It would have been finished a while ago (almost a year ago) but sometimes with bigger, more complex pieces, I get frustrated and put it aside and honestly forget about it for a few (9) months. I rediscovered it a few weeks ago and have been chipping away at it little by little. The finished piece should be done and up tomorrow sometime though...or in another year. Who knows?

This is very cool but the feathers look a bit like scales to me.

That's what I'm afraid of. It's going to need some fixing...

Next to the fact that the feathers look like scales, I really really like this illustration!

Maybe it's me, but the wings look a bit off. His left wing, our right, looks thin and long, while his right, our left, look a bit shorter and more wide? Perhaps the crop makes it look like that?

    Good, good work though.

Robin- Good call. There's something wonky going on there. The crop definitely isn't helping but I think there's some structure issues with those wings. I'm on it.

Pat- How DARE you speak of that piece to me. You're a monster, Mr. Moore.

Oh, and for some reason (that hopefully isn't my fault) this didn't rebound off of the first Zelda WIP. You can see the first chunk HERE: http://dribbble.com/shots/270084-Zelda-WIP

I like the scale-ish touch to the feathers. Makes me think the chicken has been abused for years on end by its evil master that gets off on rubbing his chickens in the dirt and watching them scream in pure terror. Nice illustration.

I like the look of the feathers; the levels of texture and detail match well with the face I think. Maybe there just need to be a few different sizes of feathers so there are areas in the feathers with less detail. Like you did on the tops/ends of the wings. But this is one cool looking chicken!!

I freakin' love this! Can't wait to see the full piece! I really love the illustration style, although I do agree that the feathers do look like scales in some places in the face and body. Superb work though, Dave!

  14. You kids can keep your fancy loftwings. Back in my day (1764 AD) the only way to catch some air in Legend of Zelda was to jump off crap holding a chicken.
...or hover boots, or have a weird giant owl carry you around, I guess.

Anyway, this is my little tribute to a series that made me what I am today: Pale and covered in chicken scratches.

You can view the whole piece here: http://davearmstrongart.blogspot.com/2012/07/legend-of-zelda.html

Also, does anyone know the exact rules on making prints with copywritten characters? I'd love to make some prints of this, but I'm not sure how legal something like that is. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
