   Trying out some purple on this one. The good thing about this potential theme is that I could easily drop in some art direction and have a different header for each page. The possibilities are endless!

   All the pixels.

   Things still to do include taking a second look at that navigation before @Daryl gets upset, and deciding on a 15px or 20px baseline for the sidebar and footer.

   I'll throw up a real HTML page some time soon.

   Why is an ad incorporated into the design? I feel like the last place I would want an ad is on my portfolio site.

   1. Money (yup, I'm super greedy)
   2. The fixed width of the ad is a handy restraint from which a grid system can take form

   Also, my site is more about the blog than the portfolio - at least for now.

    Not sure if your grid is limiting your creativity on this one... Your leading (line height) looks super tight in your categories and your purple header. Needs to be a bit more loose, but I know your trying to get the vertical rhythm a bit better.
