Yeah, with the retna display being the same size as the normal display but the resolution being doubled, 1px styles don't show up as much. For the best result when comparing with a normal display you should multiply styles by 1.5 - 2 when scaling them up.
Ahhh, yeah. I see what you mean. I guess that depends on what you're trying to achieve. Using Review, and testing beta versions of the app on Retina and 3G, it's coming along exactly how we want.
I appreciate the tip though. I'll definitely keep that in the back of my mind when working on this stuff. Cheers.
Hopefully it looks just as good on the retina display. As far as what Jeff was saying, I had to do the same while redrawing Principium for the iPhone 4. All the effects, looked exponentially better in 2px rather than 1 px. http://dznr.org/d6kh
Haha, I don't think you're being a jerk. However, I'm a firm believer in creating things the way that I enjoy to, and making them look how I want them to look.
I'm not going to make the lines 2px just because "I'm supposed to". That's a ridiculous thing to expect. It's like telling an artist to color inside the lines just because they're expected to.
Like I said, I'll try it out for the sake of listening to critique. If I like the results, then I'll keep it like that. But if I don't, I'm not keeping it there because "I'm supposed to".
Can't find the comment, but I've actually heard that the best thing to do is go 1.5 pixels.
I really can't decide why 1 pixel isn't ideal, I used it throughout Classica (as you should know Matt), but it seems like many do actually do 1.5 - 2 pixels. Whether or not you should, is up to you. I'd at least try out the 1.5 pixels and see if it looks any better.
The main thing is that you add details. Dont worry about a forced or rigid 'HIG standard' or whatever. Just do what looks best to you and your app. That said I personally would do 1.5px on the back buttons. And on things like lists/table cells 2px exactly.
But my best advice is to do what looks good to you.

Yeah, I feel it looks a little sharper when doubled. But that's just one mans opinions. Matthew knows what he's doing.

The 1px effects should all be 2px to stay in line with Apple's guidelines for retina display graphics, especially on the top bar. #justsayin

OK I GET IT 2PX. I will try it out for shits and giggles but I really think it looks good as it stands.
No more 2px talkkkkk

Sorry, not trying to be a jerk just saying I don't really feel it is something that is left up to opinion.

I think to fit the retina display, you need to double the 1xp effects. You know, to make it look good.
KIDDING.
Nice stuff.

Thanks Dustin! Yeah I'm definitely going to try 1.5px-2px just to see if I like it more. Hadn't heard the 1.5px before though. Thanks for that!
