Woud really appreciate some ideas and/or rebounds on this one.
Trying to design a diagram/visual that accomplishes the following:
• Does not require any words at all (other than the URL).
• Indicates that this is a critical step.
• Indicates that you use your browser (computer or smartphone).
• Indicates that you can use either a computer or a mobile device to do this.
This is for a print document, so interactivity is out.
Thats one fine flat browser! I thought it has to be all shiny and stuff (we're working on one for our portfolio) but your version works perfect! Good work!
could use a compass icon and an alert/exclamation mark icon side by side .. oh actually compass icon with an exclamation mark badged on ....
this obviously assumes that the general public associate compass's with a browser ... they should ... 'explorer' ... 'navigator'.. 'safari' ....
maybe replicate the rounded corners of an iOS app ... general public will definitely associate that with a browser ... the idea is translated ... its up to the viewers to determine if they use their mobile or not ??

But how does it fit in whatever step-by-step flow it belongs to? A bit of a context would've been nice to see.

Well i would suggest something, but i'm using it for redesign on a site.
Lets just say I think arrows/leading lines will be your best friend here. As well as making that circled 4 more apparent that it needs to be noticed.

Perhaps two separate illustrations of browser chrome (one for desktop, one for smartphone) side-by-side, instead of trying to combine them.
