Finally found an answer to adding some color. I have been playing with watercolors all day long. Added a really subtle indented one pixel pattern in the background that I am pretty much in love with as well.
Really like the watercolor stuff—helps give it a depth the other was missing. The perforations are an awesome move, but I would like to see them a bit more subtle. Maybe drop the opacity by 20%? The white highlight seems too bright for some reason... Just a thought.

The indent is indeed a masterstroke.

Watercolor on perforated paper. Modern & Class splashed into one. I especially love the quotemark treatment.

Gorgeous. Have you tried making the quotation mark's background slightly transparent?

Awesomeness!

Wow, it got even better. The dotted texture actually goes really well with the watercolour. A bold move but it pays off.

@Rogie - I made a few of my own that I scanned in, I also bought a small one from istock photo and also found one here: http://lostandtaken.com/blog/2009/4/30/25-free-high-res-watercolor-textures.html
