Another shot of this personal project I'm working on. Shhhh! Don't tell!

Ward - I see a little Jamie Hewlett in your style? A little 1950's UPA cartoons? Love seeing these sketches!
I have to admit, there's a little bit o' everything in my stuff. But yes, UPA & midcentury illustrations are big influences! I started The Retro Kid group on Flickr because I loved 40s-60s children's book art & illustrations and wanted to see more.
Oh man good to know! Do you think there are any modern cartoons out there that show off how well designed they are, like the old stuff did? I'm definitely trying to avoid a "things were better back then" thing...but so far Sym-Bionic Titan is the only new one I've see that really looks so good I'd hang the BG's up in my bedroom. I'd even say there are some beautiful designs hiding in the corners of Futurama...?
Lovin' the energy bro...nice work!
Jesse, I love the work that Kevin Dart's doing on Sym-Bionic Titan - he's doing the backgrounds. Both he and Chris Turnham make up Fleet Street Scandal. Kevin's got a great sense of design that I'm sure comes from his love of midcentury illustrations. I'm a big fan of Scott Wills' BG work as well as anything that those guys did on Samurai Jack. Amazing work. I also dig Mighty B - too bad it's been cancelled. Great gouache paintings. Love it.
