HTML5 Netflix player concept for mobile devices. Mostly for fun but it would be nice to enjoy a cleaner and more consistent experience across multiple devices.

Love the design, though I don't think this is possible on the iPhone for restrictions on videos. Well done.

Love it! This would even be beautiful for their app. They re-worked the ui and I hate it, but it's still better than it was.

I'd make the area that indicates the "already played content" red, it's too subtle now

    Thanks guys.

@Timothy Whalin - Yeah, I know. I would be so nice if you could use custom controls on videos in iOS, as each video service usually has unique interactions.

@Ivan Tolmachev - I actually tried red at first, and found it to be a little overwhelming, so I went with the color of their current progress bar.

@Creative Goat - I agree. I've never been that impressed with most of Netflix's UIs... and it's too bad because the I love the product.

For design consistency alone, I'm for this! You did a great job designing it as well -- very crisp. I think the translucency was a good choice. Typically, I prefer an invisible UI with videos, but I imagine this would fade out when the video plays, right?

@Timothy Whalin Actually, you could overlay your own view on top of it that has custom controls which proxy events to the real controls. I've seen it on a few apps in the store, but not sure if it's 100% "Apple approved"

@Jay Phelps Yeah I've seen a few or with advertising. But a big app like Netflix could get kicked from the app store by avoiding Apple TOS.

Go download the latest version of Netflix for iOS. They are definitely using a custom player now, which means it isn't impossible. ;)

I dig it but what's the resistance with using apples (the devices) UI and hardware for controlling volume? Doing this not only gives you more room but alleviates code, design time and more work.

Can we see a mock up with the toggle (scrubber)? :) Thanks

@Jonathan Omar Bowman - No resistance, this design concept was originally for an HTML5 video player that would be used across multiple devices, and not iPhone specific. For that reason, and the hope to foster visual consistency through various experiences, I created a more "custom" UI.

    Thanks for the comment.

@Josh Giblette Thanks for the explanation. I see that now. In that case this is a brilliant design that tackles #multiplatforms and allows for more "flexibility" to promote from #branding and marketing aspect. Love it! Great work!
