You gotta get glossy with iOS. There just ain't no other way.

Nooooo. Nothing about the design I have seen so far says that a glossy iOS icon is the way to go. I wrote a poem that expresses my feelings:

    Sorry Dan,
    I'm not a fan,
    I would change it,
    If you can.

P.S. Just so we are clear: the design itself looks awesome.

    @Joshua Hibbert

There is a young fellow called Dan
Who designs as best as he can
From iOS 1 to iOS 5
    Gloss overlay's a go-to plan

But srsly, I'd want the icon to play nicely with all the others. A flat one would stick out to me too much. I'll have a play with a few ideas, though.

Nothing wrong with your icon standing out too much is there? Surely that's what most icon designers aim for!

I think it looks fine, but I agree with Josh.

You've got that awesome topography background on the site, why not use that as a styling element to the icon, with the S on it?

Simple is best. I say cut back a lil on the gloss etc, just keep it real nice and simple. You're mastering this btw.

Why is the gloss upside down? I thought you wanted to make it fit with other icons. The rest of it is awesome though, I like the orange and the subtle gradient on the S is nice.

Looks good but it doesn't seem to go with the design I've seen.

Only 20% of the icons on my home screen use the standard apple gloss. The others are all styled to fit the app. Go with your gut, but I'd say be unique. It will make your app stand out from the rest.

@Joshua Hibbert @Glenn Hitchcock @Louis Bullock @Prekesh Chavda you guys are always on my case. Don't stop. I'll rethink this.

I agree a slight gloss suits iOS icons, flats just don't sit right in my eyes.

also I'd flip the shine back around.

Yeah @Peter Tait is right, just flip it and I think you'll be fine @Dan Eden :)

Reminds me a bit of Smashing Magazine.

Now I don't mean to throw a wrench into the works, but what about this icon says Sqetch to me? It looks really nice, but is there anyway to include some elements which make it unique and express what it is this app does? Maybe add a texture of scribbles behind the 'S'? Other than that, glossy or not, it's a nice start. Just my two cents.

Hey Dan! The colors itself are great. I agree with some guys here. Do something on the icon that remembers what is the app about. Besides, it is looking too much with the Harvest icon. Of course you didn't take from there, I just say because then it might be confusing for the ones who use both!

It's good, but can be awesome ;) Just a motivation push!

I'm with @Sean O'Grady -- my first thought while looking through my feed was Smashing Magazine.
