Sooo, I'm inching my way closer to a finish with this piece. I've decided to use the letter M in the background, doubling as a path-like device to show the movement of the envelope. I still need to refine some things, add texture, and perhaps it would be nice to supply arms/hands for the sender/recipient. Any thoughts?
p.s. this is Dribbble-cropped, so in the final you'll see the full mail boxes.
Love it Lydia!
Hands / arms - I don't think it's totally necessary, although the guy's envelope might need lowering, kinda looks like it's hanging out of his mouth ;-)
I didn't immediately get the motion of the piece. One item leading to the next. Maybe an inline dashed line in the "M" the same color as the background yellow...very subtle tone on tone? May suggest a bit more movement. Great work as always.
Hope you don't mind me suggesting something, kinda a rebound off of what Matt said, simply create the M out of a white dashed line? So it's part of the narrative? Feel awful putting this critiques forward!
No, no, the critiques are awesome! Just what I was looking for. At some point, I had a dotted line, but that was pre-M in the background, so I'll try integrating it back in. I think you and Matt are right–should help with movement.
Lydia, are you doing an alphabet series? This is looking great. My only thought is with the sender, it looks like he is licking the envelope but he does look a little funny without hands.. otherwise I think lowering the envelope would work fine.
Thanks for the feedback, Christian. I haven't decided whether to an alphabet series...maybe. I think the recipient looks ok without arms but the sender looks a bit weird. Like he's eating the envelope. I'll keep at it.
