I have decided on Sorts Mill Goudy for use with my article titles and various sections around the site due to the font-face availability and as an extra bonus, the italic variation has a lovely ampersand which I'm using.

And in case you were wondering, yes that is actually an ellipsis, not just a set of periods!

This is how the type is showing in Safari/Win with the default font smoothing options.

I like the type and the texture, but combined at this paragraph size the Goudy's antialiasing is kinda being eaten up. Some letters seem distorted (lowercase b).

@Tim I think that part of that distortion may come from the background pattern as well.

Perhaps a heavier sans serif would work better for the articles.

That said I like Sorts Mill Goudy for the article titles.

Thanks for the comments. I'll look at increasing the size here as the copy shown is just an 'about' of sorts and not necessarily the size I'll be writing titles in.

I suppose a shot with an article in would have been more useful - consider it on the way!

I increased the size here up to 22px and then noticed the smoothing was the cause of some aliasing within Safari as Chrome wasn't see the same problems. Turns out, I had 'Windows Default' chosen for smoothing and having turned it to 'Light', the text is now looking more like it does in Chrome. I like the slightly larger introduction anyway and it ensures the ampersand is given ample room!
