Last year I had the chance to be the one redesigning the hellofax web app. We were supposed to work on the redesign of the homepage and the creation of a mascot but unfortunately we did not have the time to do so then.
The guys at HelloFax really like MailChimp and were thinking about having a mascot as well. After throwing ideas, we thought about a gorilla. The gorilla had to be fun but not too fun. We were thinking about building different scenes so each time you refresh the homepage the gorilla would have been different....
As some of you know I'm very close to finish my portfolio and because I really wanted to have this project featured on it, I finished what I started few months ago.
What do you guys think? No matter what you think, THIS page will be featured :)

Yo my man, I love everything about this project except the mascot. It reminds me too much of the Silverback App's mascot. And just to let you know, I'm not a part of "This reminds me of XYZ" team.
I'm just questioning what the gorilla is representing in this story.
Love the colors, love the layout, love the treatments. Great awesome work and I cannot wait to click through your portfolio and have a google analytics competition with you lol :)
@Kerem: the concept of the gorilla is simply that hellofax were thinking about using a mascot. We wanted to have a mascot with a different message each time you will refresh the homepage just to make it less boring :) See what I mean?
I saw the SilverBack mascot before reading @Kerem Suer's comment, so I'd tend to agree. That said, I like the reason why you went with a gorilla. And it's not like SilverBack owns the rights to the gorilla motif!
I think we were looking for an explanation for the connection between the fax machine and a gorilla. For example, gorillas are expert tool-users and would have no problem using HelloFax. Or, the sounds a fax machine can make is similar to the 25 distinct vocalizations of a gorilla. Or even, gorillas communicate often and need a simpler way to do so.
Maybe a different mascot would be appropriate to better tell the story. Perhaps a yeti who lives too far up in the mountains to easily communicate with his buddies (which are obviously The Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot).
That would be cool if you had all of the monsters as mascots. Play on how they communicate to each other...."Fax is the new text...well to these guys it is..."

+1 for Silverback app. When I first looked at the thumb I thought it was something new from Clearleft.

I have to agree with @Kerem Suer, I thought this was a new version of Silverback when I saw the shot.

What a beauty. Very clean and modern, the gorilla adds that humanized touch that makes the page welcoming as well.

You should use a sloth for a mascot.

Everything else looks slick, though.
