I like the phrase you used here. "I took it too far." Such a bummer that we need to abandon concepts because of CSS limitations. I wonder how many great ideas were stalled for this reason. Still, the limitations may force us to try things we otherwise wouldn't have.
What I like most about this is the foreground trickery you've achieved. The slant and lighter tone on the red RGB make it seem like that object is projecting forward, but the blue RGB overlaps. It's like a Penn and Teller effect.
