I think you've all got something re the ambiguity of the 'M', but I'm not totally sure it matters. In fact, think that's why it works: there's a balance to be struck between making the 'M' represent something else (a heart, two people), but also reading clearly and unobtrusively as a letter. And there's also something powerful to not being too obvious, providing you don't allow for it to be misunderstood (in this case, though, if the point is human interaction, a heart and two people holding hands convey a similar message).
Completely agree with @Jeff Jenkins about the weight of the M. It's noticeably lighter, making your logotype read more as SO A than SOMA. I'm also not sure how I feel about the a...there's something not quite right about it (at the right-side base where the bottom of the bowl meets the vertical stroke). I think you need to maybe exaggerate that a bit, since at small sizes it might just blob together.
Thanks for the critique everyone. I should say that 'Soma' is greek for 'body.' This will be an organization with an initiative to create churches with a real emphasis on community. About meeting people where they are without the religiosity associated often time associated with churches.
The client suggested some directions with a heart as it can represent the body as well as love and passion.

Evidently I'm not alone in finding the meaning of the M a little confusing. The word itself doesn't give a lot of context to help make the assumption.

Anyway, basically: I kinda think it's great.

It's quite memorable, which is exactly what a logo should be. And I completely agree with the comments made by @Connor Tomas O'Brien.
My critique is that the line weight of S, O, and A is heavier than the M, and the A looks to be just a touch too far to the right.

That aside, looking good. Nice start.

Another take on a heart & interdependence. Has anyone seen something like this before?
