I love the gear, the badge shape, and the font, but for some reason the angle of the logo type make me feel uneasy, like things are off balance.
This makes me feel conflicted, because I have a huge raging boner for the legibility produced by displaying the font at that angle, and I can't think of a really elegant way alleviate my concerns. How does it look if "Floor" is placed below "Golden?"
Really like the direction you're headed here, Matt! There's just something about the skewed "Golden Floor" and the outer container that feels a little off to me.
Revised version sent to the client last Friday:
- ligature'd the 'Fl'
- thickened the border weights
- added a touch o' color
- lessened the angle of 'Golden Floor' by 1° (which I think makes it feel less awkward in the container and gives Preparation more breathing room)
- lighter weight on Est. + 1982 + PREPARATION
- concrete background makes it an official Dribbble-like submission

Initial comp for a concrete repair/preparation company in Golden, CO.
Note: finding a decent script font with a legible 'G' is muy dificil.

Thanks for the feedback Justin! Appreciate it.
I hear you on the angle. I think it might need to be mellowed out a bit - which could help the crowded feeling on Preparation.
Stacking Golden Floor could work, but then I think it could lose the classic feeling. Worth a look at least though.

I think you're correct about losing the classic flavor of the design.
I also saw the color version you posted on Droplr. All I can say is: DOPE!
