These are really cool :) I've been wanting to do something with a tree trunk ever since I took a photo of a fallen redwood. You may have just motivated me further.
@David I see, but does the shapes in the middle have anything to do with the shape of the rings? Do they affect the shape, or why do you call it research?
Sweet, also makes me think of contour lines and trig points on maps (in the UK at any rate). It would make for some interesting motion graphics in 3d space... Nice little ident pieces :-)

I didn't know that some of the centres are squared. This is very interesting! I think they will look awesome on textiles as repetitive patterns :)
