Playing with a logo idea for our mobile plugin. I am requesting all hands on deck for feedback on this idea, would be much appreciated!
What I did was find a normal vector of an iPhone, then tilted it and started warping it that it would suit the 'O' in Obox. I am using some poetic justice for the shadows under the light swishes.
The effect I am going for is that the O swishes over the phone (hence the shadows)... not sure if that makes any sense or whether it is clear enough in the logo.
I agree with Alan.
I think it's that top-right curvy line that's throwing me off. It makes it feel like the iPhone is squishy and has been bent backwards.
I'm no expert, but I can't help but think that the O looks like part of the phone. Perhaps try making the O bigger so that it overlaps the top and bottom segments of the phone, as to me it looks as if the iDevice is broken and without a screen..
Wow you dudes are awesome. Thanks for the feedback.
@Alan - I am using the Obox blue and changing the contrasts for each layer.
@Ben - Thanks dude, it could be that some areas have swishes and other areas are straight. I am looking into that now.
@Rob - The phone is tilted 20deg so there is an element of it being slightly bendy which was intentional.
@Wills - Thanks dude, the O is meant to be part of the phone which is why I have integrated it with swooshes. I reckon I need to get the execution right so that it is clearer.
Uhhhhhh I totally love this!!! The only part of your design that is not working 100% to me is the font in the middle, specially the left part of it.
I think the concept is awesome and what you've made is awesome too but I'm sure that with a little more work the result will be even more cool! :)
I really like this – I think the reason it looks 'awkward' isn't to do with the shading, more to do with the flow of the 'o'.
I reckon if the shape was more like this: http://cl.ly/2OO0 ... it might reduce that awkwardness?
Just an idea.
I think if you go with the curves on the edges you straighten the shape up so it mirrors more of a figure 8. Then you can curve in & curve out without the weird diagonal.
Nice one – looking forward to seeing it :)
(Just looking back at this, and I think if the phone was flipped so it skews from right to left, it might help too?)
Switched around the swishes, and framed the logo so that it fits inside an iPhone outline, I think I will be going with this exact logo but once again your opinions are most welcome :)

Idea is great, not sure about the colouring and shadows though.

Visually looks nice, but it seems awkward, like there's a lot of tension. I think it's because of the contrasting angles.

Looks fantastic David. I sort of like the fact it's bent and miss-shaped, but I can see why some people might think it looks a little awkward.
Perhaps you could try keeping the outside shape more standard and less abstract. You can still keep the sweeping shapes inside etc.
I don't know if it would help or work, but it might be worth trying just to see how it looks.
Otherwise beautiful work.

Thanks again!
@Liam - I see what you saying, I am going to give that a go by removing the curves from the leading edge of the logo.
@Editha - And while I apply Liams suggestion I will be looking into improving the integration of the O. Thanks Editha.

I agree with Rob that the top curve of the phone is throwing off the design a bit. Overall great approach.
