I duplicated the layer to be cross-hatched and move it 3px down & right.
Changed the layers "Fill" to 0%.
Put a pattern overlay (cross-hatch the same color as the font) on that layer.
Then put the layer "Opacity" at something i liked (i think 50% here).
There might be an easier way, but this is pretty quick. You could create an action out of the process and really streamline it.

Can I ask a stupid question? How did you do the hatched shading behind the letters? I'm pretty sure I'm overcomplicating things like this.
