@Danny Keane — I need to come up with some kind of selector that sits inside the coloured wheel. You'll use that as a handle to select your colour.

@Jack Bingham Yeah thats what I'd thought would happen if I'd selected a color with my thumb.
Perhaps, just as an idea you could do something like this http://cl.ly/GRu9 it would allow you to swirl around to select a colour which would change the coloured ring in the center. Then when the user takes their thumb off of the control the tick fades to full opacity indicating to the user that this is now able to be saved if they want to.

Cool concept. My suggestion is, like the apple keyboard, it should pop out above the finger. Because, in some cases, you would cover up the center with your finger. #just my two cents

@Danny Keane Cheers for your mock up. I was thinking the icon you tap to open the colour wheel changes colour as you slide your thumb around. The multi coloured icon sits next to multiple swatches, so it could act as the preview.
@Wojtek Witkowski No worries, credit goes to God for those colours.
@John Williams I want to force the user to avoid white and black (these are already preset) and only choose from a predetermined set of colours.
