   Very interesting, the problem here is that while you have managed to compound a D and a 2 there's the expectation that the lower potion is actually a third character. If you reduced the height of the lower right terminal you could make an L or if you added a central bar and removed the ligature along the bottom you would have an H.

   Is the brand name D2 or is that an abbreviation?

   For me the first one is better, because the two letters are designed in two different styles. Now you have more one number 2 than ligature between D and 2.

   this is the one thats better but look out for the sand timer looks that it has...i would work on the bottom left or look at defining the roman numeral element for '2'

   I think the first one is initially a lot more obvious and clear that it is D2. With a little refinement this could probably work a little better, but I think the first one is a winner.
