Close-up crop of a wine label I'm developing. It's a tribute to one of the real farm workers, Oom Jan ('Uncle John') who toils tirelessly behind-the-scenes. I used excerpts from an interview conducted with him on the front label. Gems like "Farming has been in my blood from the day that I was born." Honesty always trumps marketing BS! :-)
As he's a God-fearing man, the etching shows him in his Sunday best.
Style inspired by Victorian broadsides, to lend gravitas. See attached.

this is unbelievable. Great work man.
@Jordan Metcalf - Hey, Jordan. Thanks so much. Hopefully very believable! ;-)
where is Cape Town are you based?
@Jordan Metcalf - Durbanville. And you?
@Simon™ Town. I have a studio in Woodstock.
Suppose it looks stunning, if you like well crafted, high quality design... meh... ;)
This looks amazing! Illustrator?
Your work is amazing Simon! I love this!
ha, master of this style..and wine labels :D
oooOO, another treat from the ™ Christmas stocking :) like the direction on this man, refreshing to see content like this on wine labels.
@Bruno Felicio - Thanks! Yes, it's Illustrator.
Ouch. You're smokin' aces as always. Makes me feel like giving up and doing better work all at the same time. Youre one of the few people who I find simultaneously depressing and inspiring. Congrats.
@Alex Lloyd - Ha ha! Great comment. You have no reason to be depressed, my boy!
All sorts of yes. Think this goes top of my cool list. Epic detail man, congrats.
@Tom Lane - Very happy to be on Ginger Monkey's Cool List! :-D
Beautiful, Simon. Love the details. In my country, we use Oom also to call uncles :-)
Captivating detail brother. There's absolutely no short cuts in your work, nothing but undivided attention to every single detail. Love it - as always. Very inspiring.
@Inka Mathew - Thanks Inka! You've been a loyal supporter from the beginning! I really appreciate it! Thought you were in the USA? You also use 'Oom'?
Stop being better than everyone else!
You're starting to annoy me!
@Matt Vergotis - Thanks! Wish I could put as much effort into my dress sense. Wearing no underpants today! More comfortable when one sits in front on a Mac all day! :-)
@Emir Ayouni | Growcase| Growcase - If that's the case, I'm so totally super chuffed and delighted to be annoying the heck out of you! ;-)
I'm a big fan of your work :-) I'm from Indonesia (Jakarta). Oom is in our language because of the Dutch colonization for 2.5 centuries. Tante is for aunty, right?
@Inka Mathew - Sorry, I remember you mentioning that before! My Dutch grandmother was born on Java. My father born in the Netherlands, speaks fluent Dutch. Me only Afrikaans! So Tante or Tannie is good!
