Antietam Lecture Poster

This is a poster created for a lecture commemorating the anniversary of the Battle of Antietam during the US Civil War. It occurred Sept 17, 1862.

The visual focus point is a simplified, focused version of a 70's era NPS map that was located during the research phase. It shows both side's troop movements and where they met on the battlefield. While visually showing the chaos of those movements, it also hints a bit at this battle being a relative stalemate.

Red was chosen to represent the feeling of violence and also catch the eye at a distance. Having the arrows be the paper and match the border keeps it feeling integrated and calls attention to the lecture series schedule on the right. Typeface used is the modern-day NPS standard Frutiger.
