I've been working on a couple of buttons for a bottom bar for NoteNow…
I just don't know how to express 'Note' [second one] without it looking too much like 'New note/message'…
I think the ones in the bottom are better, but the one for export and the one for backgrounds seem like they're missing fill or something against the settings one, so I tried to fill them up and the top ones came out, but I'm not so sure how I feel about them.
Also think I should make the export button's rectangle a bit taller.

Could you please suggest me something to make these better?? Any help is very appreciated! :)

PS. They won't be *that* close to each other in the app, I just put them closer to fit them inside the 400px dribbble gives me so that they don't get their original size changed.

Edit: Here's one a little bit updated of the bottom ones in the shot :) Link.

I like the bottom row much better. Not too sure about the Note icon though

@Brady Valentino yea, I just can't figure out a way to express it in a good and simple way…

Like the bottom row for sure. The note icon could be a square with three lines going across, maybe with a "tabbed" ear folded over. Agree the rectangle on export would look nice taller. Might consider one more ring around the settings to remove some of the density of that icon compared to the others!

I really like the ones you added in the description. Also, what @Erin Nolan says.

However, I don't really get what you want to achieve with the Toolbar. Why would you add a Toolbar instead of using the gestures you already have?
I think you have the great luck to be able to make the gestures discoverable at the first sight (via the first Note).

So if you do what I think you do, my guess for the actions behind the icons is:
    - Export
    - Edit Note?
    - Background
    - Settings

So when that button means 'Edit Note' (I have no other idea what it could be) why won't you just let the users tap into the Note? Isn't that the most intuitive way?
Of course, whatever I'm saying here is completely invalid if you were doing this because of user feedback. But if you just made it up I might rethink the idea. In Germany we have a very nice word for that: Verschlimmbesserung ;)

@Max Fellmuth yea, there's no way I'm going to be able to pronounce that word, like…ever. LOL
While I think it's good that I can make the gestures discoverable with the first note like you said, many people skim it.
The buttons would be like this:
    - Export: to save a screenshot to your camera roll or email the note
    - Note: to change the note design easier, this way you could see the note change live, without having to go back and forth between the main UI and the settings. It'd work just like you can preview filters on Path/Instagram right now, via a bunch of tiny squares just on top of the bottom bar, tap one square and the note changes.
    - Backgrounds: Same as for the notes, but for changing the background image.
    - Settings: To go to the help page, change the font and font size, and enable/disable the deletion of notes with a warning.

@Erin Nolan Thanks for those suggestions! I'll see what I can do and post a rebound asap. :)

  7. So I worked on your suggestions and this is what it looks like now.
I made the export button a bit taller, I think it looks better now. I left the background and settings buttons almost untouched, only tweaked them a bit to fit them in the 2px grid better so it's easier to scale down from @2x once I'm done.
@Erin Nolan I tried to make the note just how you described it, is that what you meant??

And once again, any feedback is more than welcome! :p
