Personally I'd go with the bottom option, but then not sure if I like the typeface for the "Self" - would really love to see something that balances the circle. Something like Gotham (kinda boring) or another discrete sans-serif.
I'd say bottom as well. One thing I'm thinking is why isn't "Self" aligned to either the cap-height of the ampersand, or the height of the circle. Feel like it should be one of those two...
Depending on what other graphical elements you'll be working with, the circle could be shrunk a bit to match the height of the SELF. Or you could make the & the same height as the SELF and make the circle a bit bigger than it is now. Or don't! It looks good to me.
Hey hot shots, I actually can't say so fast if the best one is the first or 2nd one. It's not like if Fransisco said "this is my logo". This shot shows two versions so I think it's a matter of context. What type/style of design for the rest ? Are you going to use Baskerville somewhere else or not ? Does the design rely on typography ? What's the importance of "&" compared to "self" ?
Just seeing the capture, the second one is better to me. But like Jason said, if the ampersand matches the height of "self"... I may prefer the top one ! ;-)

Right back in with a few options. Tried about every suggestion. Thoughts?

I like the bottom one, fancy ampersand is awesome, maybe it could be a little stronger?

I vote bottom. The top one makes the & look lonely.

I vote bottom as well. The ampersand (or is that "amber"sand hark hark) is sexy.

I'm going to go against the flow here, 'cos I prefer the top version. I think the ampersand is cleaner and more legible.
Agree with Ian that the alignment is a bit out now that you've made 'SELF' bigger.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'll work on the alignment. I wanted to get something back up right away so didn't fine tune it.

Top. Just kidding, obviously: the bottom!

As much as I'm in love with Knockout, the Hoefler Text Italic ampersand here does indeed look better in the circle.
