Toying with idea over the past couple of weeks for my photo site I want to set up and had the idea of using circles a lot and transparency so that the photos overlap. When you hover on a photo it shall become full colour! :)
This is just a very brief mock-up, going to start throwing it together in the next couple of days and see where it leads me!

I like the idea Rachel! I'm not too sure about the transparency on the overlapping bits. Maybe have the photos on the left always sit on top, and then when you hover it shows true colours? Not sure if that makes sense, quite hard to explain!
I quite like the transparency effect, good work
I love where you're going with this. Not 100% sure about the transparency either, it seems kind of distracting. The circles concept is groovy, as the kids say, it reminds me of lenses (which is presumably where you're going with the concept?); but again, not entirely sure whether the transparency is the best way go go. Experiment and see if anything else works well, perhaps? :)
I really like the concept. Maybe throw in some css transforms to bring a little dynamism.
Perhaps increase the size a little of the hovered item, and shift the positions of the other items to push them into the background and focus attention on the hovered item?
I think I would definately be tempted to use -webkit-filter:grayscale and blur here too :D
