Choosing colours is my favorite part of any web project :) I usually begin with a mood board where I paste images, colours and textures I find from all over the place, magazines, www.colourlovers.com and the internet and of course the colours are also influenced by the branding of the client I'm designing for. Someone said this colour scheme looks a bit like Gowalla's :(
Thanks Ted - to explain the icons: this is a subscription-based website - articles that can only be viewed by members are displayed with the icon and some teaser content to get them to sign-up. The document icon changes depending on the type of article it is, document for download, presentation, article to read etc.

Added a 2 pixel rounded corner - to soften the design and fit better with the icons. Looking forward to coding that rounded corner with CSS in IE :(

Super clean and the distinction between the elements is very good.
Have you thought of maybe adding a faint pixel shadow underneath the title to kind of echo the shadowing of the boxes? It could be a little much.

Something about this simple and minimal design style I am just loving. I bet it goes really nicely with a fun illustration too.

Thanks for the comment, Joel Smith. Will certainly look into adding a faint shadow to the title - think it will look quite neat.
Thanks Joel Glovier - this is (unfortunately ;) ) a corporate site - but an illustration would have work well with this.

Great colors, really unique. How did you arrive at that combination?
