@Hamish Thanks! I'm afraid we can't tell you what it's for. Perhaps our clients would want to re-introduce that feature later on in the project again.
@Jared West Haha, the color scheme is pretty much based on the rest of the UI

ThisLife - Top Bar

The final look of ThisLife's webapp's top bar buttons. We've tried a whole lot of different styles for the add-button (e.g. orange background with white text). Our client wanted the button to say 'hey I'm here if you wanted to add anything' yet didn't want it to distract the user too much.
