Working on an iOS app for quote.fm, a service for recommending articles worth reading by sharing a quote.

This is actually the first time I don't use any skeuomorphism techniques for an application design. It's more difficult than expected, however I like it as much as trying to imitate real life objects.
This is really fresh and clean. I really really like it.
Are the second level items supposed to be nested under the first selected item, or are they an extra content filter or category mode? I only ask because maybe you want to darken level 2 to make it look like it's beneath level 1 etc.

The second level is for selecting the categories for the quotes/articles you want to read. Nevertheless they are individually selectable for each function you can pick on the first level.
So darken those icons may be a good idea, I have to play around with it to find out. :D
