It's "obvious" in that it's a really straightforward and clear way to delineate the individual letters. I messed with this, too, but for some reason really wanted to make the 45 degree bars crossing over (as in the bottom version) work. Even when they clearly weren't. Typical.

I like it in concept, but honestly I would have never been able to read this without reading that it's a logotype for "octophant"
