So I wrote a little bit about this simple effect that I was able to create using Blackout Two AM http://blackout.sursly.com
I'm pretty smitten with it, since, so far, it handles consistently well across browsers. No photoshop necessary. Just pop a background on the heading and make the font color match the page background.
