Most people seemed to like the flat version of the icon best, but it was feeling a bit dull, especially at bigger sizes. The three-step 3D effect was a bit much, and the detail was lost at smaller sizes and it simply looked blurry. A simple single-step works quite well, even at 16x16. I think this is the one I'm going to roll with.
This is great. Instantly recognizable, and scales big/small very well. It's cool too because you can have a lot of fun riffing on the basic concept (making it 3D, rotating it, etc.)
