My though process on this one: I spent weeks thinking about a good metaphor. First thoughts were of a cave-like temple (as in the game), but that is hard to pull off. Next was some kind of mask or skull, that plays on the evil primates that are in pursuit. But that too is hard to pull off. Then cobble stones, which would be a good metaphor for the running aspect, but does very little for app recognition.
Then it hit me. Why not make a temple? I could play on the angle of the icon as is defined by the bevel. So I did. I'm elated with the result. First time fabricating ancient brick and a pyramid-like Mayan temple, so it was a fun run ;)
And now no longer will I have to keep this app in a folder.
Excellent work here. A real fan of this icon, the colouring is spot on and i'm liking the grass/weed/vine texture around the outer edge.
Only thing that doesn't seem to fit to me is the bottom "£D" edge the colours don't seem to match the rest of the icon.(too dark near the edge and middle)
Why not try making the vines come down that section like there hanging over the edge of the cliff/temple?
@Liam Kenyon Thanks for the suggestion Liam. The bevel is quite dark on the device. And I've learnt that by trying to add complex detail to it really just ends up making it look dirty and quite frankly a mess. I've tried the vines hanging in another icon and they looked awful. The Retina display just ate it up. So while it does look relatively naked on your monitor, on the device, it doesn't look so out of place.
wtf ? william it's awesome !!! the metaphor is just perfect !! I really would love to know how many Jaku you've sell :D congrats again for you talent !
