Working on a signature style logo for a client. I created the MW monogram first (see attachment) which governed the stroke weights and angles that i've tried to keep consistent throughout. So far I'm happy with the first name as shown here, but the second name is proving to be tricky with finding that balance. WIP
Wow, love this Matt. That monogram is stunning - I really like how well you've translated the feel of it into the full name. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the last name.
thank you all for the positive feedback... really chuffed to see this make the popular front page. I hope the inclusion of the second name is as popular.
@Florin Capota i'm hearing you, although i did want it to be a little off kilter to give it a more handwritten feel, rather then looking perfect like a font. each stroke does follow some sort of lineal reasoning.
@Sean Heisler haha! i know. The David Michael job i did opened up a few opportunities for me to do some more type work. I'm really enjoying it at the moment.
@Nick Slogget when i get a few lazy hundred hours i need to start dabbling in completing a few font sets.
@Robert Williams Not pen and ink, but pencil, written over and over until i'm happy with the bones of the lettering. then i go over the bones and sketch the angle of the strokes and thicknesses. after that it's vectored in illustrator and the tweakomania begins.
This. Is. Awesome. I really love it, man! And I was gonna ask you about your process, but you already answered it above.
That ligature is just pure sex. One thing, though, if you *were* to write it with, say, a flat-edged marker, would you have written it starting with the A and finishing with the M, or would you have tried the world's hardest lettering challenge and start with the M, then to the Y, and then BACKWARDS through the rest of the letters?
