I'm working on a webdesign project for a client who got a logo from 99 designs. As you can imagine, I don't like it and the client gave me permission to modify the design or even create my own.

Rush River is a new company so I have a lot of options.

Attached is a comparison between the contest winning design and mine. Critiques welcome on this wip...

It will be part of the overall package of web and logo design. This hasn't been shown to the client yet so it's not approved yet.

Is it just me: Based on what I see from 99 designs contests, the designers seem to be more 'graphic designers' than logo or corporate identity designers. Just my take on it.

james, it's hard to call anyone who participates in those contests any kind of designer. they degrade our profession and thus forfeit the right to call themselves one.

Yours is better. Way better. :)
If I had to give a feedback: at first glance, the river/water part seemed like a book.
