The logo on the left doesn't make too much sense if you don't know the interface. If you do know it, it does. Tempted to do the left version in brushed aluminum in spite of all the resistance...
They're both interesting marks, but as someone who is unfamiliar with the app I'm not sure what it does from either. This isn't necessarily wrong though, it just depends on what you're going for. Also I'm not sure the Apple 'shine' is doing much for you, you might try a version of each with it turned off.
If the one on the left ties in with the interface then that, for me, makes it the winner no matter how much I like the one on the right (love the mechanic, cog-like, machine feel of that one). I'll admit I didn't like the brushed aluminum version of 'TXT' but it could well work better with the concentric circles as there are no legibility issues.
Wouldn't do the shine on the one on the left, but generally prefer the one on the right. I like the machine feel to the lettering and the gloss highlight is just about right.
It is difficult to comment on how it all might relate to the app itself but would agree with Davin here that the +x+ logo is the stronger of the two. The 'target' logo will become confused with other app logos and I also feel that the icon on the right conveys more of a communicative tone without being language specific.

The left one looks great, with or without the interface. The other one not so finished. Looks like one of those ideas we always end up rejecting.

Quite close to Target (http://www.target.com/), no? Why not sticking with the old one and iterate it?

The one on the right is more unique and would therefore be more distinguishable within a crowd. It's got better contrast, too.

I prefer this clean, rounded version of the +x+ logo. The others with metallic sheen seem overwrought.
The target alternative doesn’t feel like it would be memorable even if that icon has some meaning inside the app.
