Here's another microtutorial that some of you may know but others might find revelatory! This one's about avoiding the tedious & annoying layer style gradient picker. Really useful for making buttons that are easy to recolor quickly.
Whenever I can, I blend a black/white gradient on top of a solid color, instead of using an actual colored gradient. This way, the layer palette fill color reflects the actual layer accurately, and you don't have to deal with going like 5 clicks deep to change the color. Make sense? Awesome.
Nice tip! Never thought about using Overlay. Usually what I do is use the gradient tool but leave one end transparent so it's adaptable. You can also use inner shadow.

I love this effect. So easy to show someone and switch a color if they want to see something different.
