I definitely like this direction conceptually over the previous, but the contrast in the buttons with the background isn't strong enough, IMO. The icons and text are hard to read
Kevin, thanks man. The comp that I shipped has the inactive icons colored beigeish. I think I like it better this way, and am very curious as to what others think.
FYI, this isn't pixel perfect because I just resized a jpeg of my original at retina display resolution. It's my first time designing for it. I hope it renders it more faithfully than photoshop. Also there are some placement and continuity issues with the nav at the moment, don't mind those.
Definitely moving in the right direction. The lighter icons at the bottom help—but without as much contrast up top they really steal your attention from what you're trying to look at. I think you can probably hit a better balance between the two. Nice work man!

Like Kevin, I think the text and icons are too hard to read. Not really enough contrast between them and the background.

Make a pressed version, or selected to be white or just lighter or something else when pressed :D

I agree with Kevin. I think making the text black and having the 1px drop shadow on the icons only may work a bit better. Looks great though.

Definitely better than the previous version! Looks great.
Is it just me or is the bottom part a bit hard to read?
