Looks great Mike - great sketching and shading. Struggled to read Eightone, but I guess you'll fix that when you vector it. Sweet! (Just thinking about BBQ now...)

I had the same question about the fork. I really dig the shading on the brush / pencil and on the cross. The only thing that stands out as a little off to me is the "." after the 1. But then again, I'm not sure that you can do without it either. Altogether, it's some very great work.

Got it, looking at your other shots of badge designs you have done, so going on that I can confidently say this will look amazing when finished.
Great sketch work to, I know so many designers who don't sketch enough and don't see the point, such a great skill to have to get our ideas down.

@Bo Lane - the "." as you say is me deciding weather or not to add the bottom cross part of the 1 if that makes sense, not sure if it will look good like that or not. I guess you have to know me to get the fork, not sure how to make that make sense to people right off the bat but maybe it doesn't need to, and that would keep it a convo starter?? thoughts?

looks great Mike. i dont think you need to add any other elements. i would say make a choice between pencil or brush. it looks a bit strange seeing both combined.
maybe set the top of the brush (if you keep it) behind the top banner?

you know looking at it again i think the top banner should be behind everything. its kind of hard to say without seeing 3 versions of it next to each other. but now im thinking your top to back order should go: pencil, fork, cross, banners.
i think you should go with a pencil, its more specific to you and the message i think stays the same.

This looks so awesome Mike.
You know I'm into all that heavy emblem stuff, so it's obvious that I love it.
I would tho suggest, to maybe skip the bible reference at the top, just because you already have the cross in the middle to represent the christian element and maybe exchange the text to "Estb. xxxx" or something of the likes.
And I'm not saying that because I'm a non-religious person. Just for the cause of balance :)

Josua 24:!5 say..."As for me and my house we will SERVE the Lord." So when this badge goes on a shirt or what ever I want folks to know that. Other than that is there anything else you would change to make it better? I am ready to do a final sketch and get this thing rockin'. Also color suggestions from you would be much appreciated!!
