Status Slack App

Over the past year IBM has worked very closely with Slack on helping define what the Enterprise Grid experience should be. We worked on bridges for functionality that didn't exist yet, communicated and collaborated with endless Business Units at IBM to understand and buy-in to the Enterprise model, and sometimes build utility Slack apps to scratch an itch or make our lives easier.

This Slack app—Status—was built during a 3 day hackathon and it was extremely exciting to see something go from an idea to a fully functioning app in that time frame. Here are some of the core user enablements we designed for after doing a small amount of research:

- The app should remember your status from yesterday to avoid copy/pasting or rewriting
- The app should be easy to configure in a channel, call with a `/` command, and be contained within the Slack app itself
- Users can bump tasks that they did not complete yesterday to today, or remove them all together if they aren't relevant anymore
- Users can type in extra things they accomplished yesterday, type in what they plan to accomplish today, and optionally include any blockers they have
- Finally, the user should be able to `#` a GitHub issue if they configured the app with a certain repository; this makes it super easy and quick to jot down what you're working on in context of the other tools you use
