I played with a similar idea and in the end dropped it. The legibility is a too big of an issue to ignore. Also got flaked on Typophile along the same lines, see here and .
The treatment is awesome though and I agree with @Benjamin that this is the most unique of the bunch.
Perhaps render EL a bit differently to make it read as a separate word and then spiral the letters and add some visual clues as to how the flow goes?
@Benjamin I'd say the longer the words, the easier they are to pull apart when reading, not the other way around, especially when there's a bit of Spanish and word mangling are mixed in.
